Log
Traditionally all boats have a log to record there position as well as their course, speed, what the weather is doing, etc. These logs often contain comments and notes by the crew. Sometimes these notes are purely factual - lists of jobs, notes about tides, etc. Other times they can be more descriptive accounts of what's been happening. Often humourous, or even fictional comments appear in this otherwise formal document.
This page contains a record of our log entries on board Piper as well as notes and news about this website and other things going on. While sailing we can update it via text message with our up to date position and comments. Feel free to add ccomments to any of the log entries.
Exciting end to the trip

The last couple of days have been quite exciting. Here is a quick summary. Left Arbroath at 10am on Sunday morning singlehanded with 4-5m waves and a force 6 northeasterly. Sailed 100 miles at up to 8knots with just the Genoa up. During the last few hours the wind eased off and I arrived in Blyth at 4am. After mooring I went to quickly stretch my legs round the marina pontoons before going to sleep. Much to my amazement I came across a fisherman who had fallen off the peir and was stuck in the water. He had been in for quite some time and was very very cold. I helped (dragged) him out and called an ambulance. Monday I rested and then on tuesday I motored up the Tyne to St Peters Marina in Newcastle. This involved dodging a moored oil rig as well as lots of floating trees which had been washed down by the floods.
So that is our summers journey over. I will try and get the rest of the photos up ASAP. Time to start dreaming of the next adventure.

Over the last couple of days we have sailed via Stonehaven to Arbroath. Yesterday was a cracking sail, downwind with the spinnaker up at 6 knots as the North Easterly Wind built behind us. Unfortunatly the strong north easterly winds mean that there are no sheltered ports we can get into easily south of here so the current plan is to spend the weekend in Arbroath. At least it isnt raining here like the rest of the country sems to be. Mum is leaving on Sunday and then I hopefully plan to catch the tail end of the north easterly winds south as far as I can.
