Menai Piper
This is the home page of Reg Measures, Steve Burdett and our Contessa 26 yacht Menai Piper. It documents our sailing and climbing trip to the Hebrides which started in April. We are both recent graduates and have taken unpaid time off work to fulfill this ambition. We are both experienced climbers and feel that a sailing boat is the perfect way to explore the intricate coastline and its cliffs in a sustainable manner. We are trying to be as self sufficient and low carbon as is reasonably possible.
We started our journey from Beaumaris in North Wales and aim to finish in Newcastle in mid September. Along the way various friends are joining us as crew and sharing our adventure. You can follow our progress on the log and map pages, both of which we will be updating by text message. We will try to upload photos whenever we can but these will be a bit behind the log and map due to the upload process. Our most recent position update is shown on the map and in the right hand side of the screen, you can get a new position update by texting "piper pos" to 07591 648455. This service is provided by a prototype piece of electronics we are testing, see the instructions for more details.
