Route Plan

We only have a very vague plan for our route and this is the way we want to keep it for the moment, because half the fun of this trip is the freedom to go wherever we want. Our plan currently consists of a list of places we would like to visit. Some of these places are listed below. There are a couple of obscure and worthwhile sea stacks in the area and the beach and bothy there are supposed to be magic - so the rumour goes. Got a cool name as well.

Corpach, canal basin near Fort William

Craighouse, Jura

6000 red deer. Also a shop, fine foooood from the Jura hotel, a distillery, 3 Paps and a small rusty school bus.

Da Bod Cafe, Hillswick

My favourite eatery in the world ever. Volunteer run veggie cafe-restaurant-seal sanctuary-organic kitchen garden-live music venue wonderfulness. Check they''re open beforehand tho!!

Inverie, Loch Nevis

A new harbour with slipway. A pub with good food. Bunkhouse accomodation if needed. Only one road which is not connected to mainland roads. Surrounded by mountains. Exceptionally good. Near to Mallaig by sea - which has a chandlers and boatyard.

Loch Scavaig, Skye

Right under the Cuillin. Seals ashore and soaring granite straight up from the anchorage. Use two hooks. The downdraughts are ferocious.

Shieldaig - small village and pub. Possibly Inver Alligin in Upper loch Torridon too? Nearest to the Torridon hills.

Mousa

Position: 60°0.01'N 2°49.52'W
RSPB reserve and home to Mousa broch - the finest preserved example of an Iron Age broch (or round tower) in Scotland, and is the tallest still standing in the world. Visit at midnight to see (and hear!) the Storm petrels come home. Also an Orca hotspot

Muckle Flugga

Most Northerly point in British Isles (well almost, Out Stack is really), big lighthouse, EPIC numbers of gannets, kittiwakes, skuas, auks, terns (trust me i had to count them!) and great fun to canoe around (or so i''m told)

Portree

Main town on Skye. Buses in every direction. Near to Old Man of Storr, first climbed by Hamish MacInnes I think, very loose rock?

Rum

Small island belongs to SNH. Visit the big house which is sometimes open for visitors. Rum has fantastic hills called the Cuillins - miniature versions of Skye. Beautiful views. Hundreds of red deer. Shearwater - birds which roost at night in underground burrows! Bunkhouse accomodation.

St Kilda

Awesome! No climbing allowed but the atmosphere of the place is unbelievable. The anchorage soon becomes untenable leaving you faced with a 50 mile run to the shelter of Taransay if it kicks up, but that only adds to the buzz. Like the site.

You should try the logical direct finish to The petebrough mountaineering club are yellow bellied lilly livered coward HS 4b, I reckon the direct will go at E9 4b. Its just a stroll along the beach, easy access craging really.

ullapool and achiltibue

Position: 57°0'N 6°0'W
ullapool is a great small town with a nice small harbor at the end of loch broom. Achiltibue is an amazing area with access to the summer isles and Stac Pollaidh, Ben More Coigach., and the cliffs at Reiff.
